09 Stop Dreaming, Start Doing

The Fletchifesto hangs on my wall at the office and as much as I walk past these statements every day, I never get used to the motivation these ideas provide me.

This is one that peers down at me regularly:

Stop Dreaming, Start Doing.

I'm a dreamer. I'm a visionary. I create exciting plans with great potential. I have great ideas for projects and I always have a new plan for my life, but here is the problem: They often remain as just dreams. I kill it with the "dreaming" part, but I suck when it comes to the "doing" part.

What hinders the actual doing?

  1. Fear of the unknown.
  2. Fear of the known.
  3. The risk involved seems too high.
  4. Fear of Failure
  5. (Fill in the blank)

Call it mid-life frustration or just too many years of vision without action, but I have had enough. It's time to stop dreaming and start doing.

I found this penciled out checklist from the end of 2016 that I've kept in my notebook:

I'm pleased to see that after 6 months, several of those things have happened. Kendra and I continue to work through future plans. We now actually take time in our life to plan for vision discussions. We find time alone and then together to discuss where we see God leading us.

Last week we went to a vision casting event for our city. What would it look like if we pumped life into our downtown district? It was all vision. It was all dreaming out loud. It was inspiring, but now we are ready to be part of the doing.

How about you? Are you a dreamer or a doer? Would you like to join me? Let's do this together. Share what you are knocking off your bucket list. Tell me what big scary mountain is in front of you right now. Let's move forward together.

Stop Dreaming. Start Doing.

Quietly making noise,
Fletch
