"...whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things
- The Apostle Paul to the Church in Philippi.
Hey! I hate to interrupt your beautiful Friday of pumpkin picking and squash arranging...but I thought I'd give you some pre-weekend meditation. No...not Seinfeld...or even it's humorous nod to the scene between Tom Cruise and Jack Nicholson in "A Few Good Men."
Instead, I'm building on the apostle Paul's words above. In the list above, we are encouraged to meditate on the truth. Guess what? I'm beginning to realize that sometimes I can't handle the truth!
I am not going to snowball you at all on this post. Below, I am including a link to Abort73.com. It's a tough site...loaded with the truth of abortion (not just the philosophical and moral arguments, but the medical facts of abortion, the history of abortion, and so much more). This is the first time in my life I've seen a comprehensive presentation of abortion without it being heavily weighted with religious undertones.
Can you handle it? I can't...
You see, for me, it's much easier to listen to campaign rhetoric and sound-bytes on the topic of abortion. I can handle that. "A woman's choice" sounds so much better than reading the medical techniques used to abort a baby. Speechwriters for presidential candidates and large town-hall interviews with Rick Warren make the topic of abortion so much easier to handle! I can frame that mentally and emotionally and distance myself from the topic. That is easy schmeasy...
Paul doesn't say to meditate on that which is easy though...he says to meditate on the truth! Can you handle the truth of abortion? My guess is that you can't and that's not a taunt...it's just my experience that the truth can sometimes hurt (like looking at the number on the scale or the amount of debt you owe)...and it is in our nature to avoid the truth when it shows us what we do not want to see. I doubt many will even take the time to click through the link below...because like me...you can't handle the truth!
In the history of theMT, I've only mentioned abortion once... So, why am I suddenly so fired up about the topic of abortion today?
In about an hour, we are taking Mighty Joe in for his follow-up appointment with the neurologist. The doctor will be reviewing the CT scan, the EEG and the MRI that all indicate some physical brain damage to our little superhero...
If you remember, we spent 11 days in the ICU where doctors told us that the enterovirus would probably cause a lifetime of health issues for Joe...including heart and brain damage.
Also today, in cities all over America there are women "making choices" to prevent pregnancies because doctors are telling them that if their children are born...they will face a lifetime of health issues.
I guess we all have choices to make...
