    theMT Excellence in Advertising

This morning I saw a very witty advertisement. It involves a guy sitting at his breakfast table with Abe Lincoln and a beaver playing cards. In the background is a random astronaut making breakfast or something... Evidently this guy has insomnia and these are the absurd characters of his dreams who eventually tell him, "we miss you..." In other words, you need to get back to sleep...so you can get back to your dreams...and us.

For me...this commercial wins recognition from theMangoTimes...but not just for the surface humor.

You see it's promoting a sleep medication. A drug which you take, so you can fall asleep. Get it? Are you sure? I just want to make sure you understand that this commercial is advertising sleep medication.

Well, like every drug advertisement, if they tell you the benefits of the drug...they are required to tell you the negative side effects. I was already grinning with the Lincoln, beaver, astronaut image, but I choked on my coffee when they started the fastreadingofthenegativesideeffects...which included the following: drowsiness and fatigue.

Not much comment to provide here...but I wonder if the braniacs at the drug company can explain how drowsiness and fatigue can be a negative side effect for a sleeeeeep medication?

    Quietly making noise,
    Fletch

My guess is that they are referring to drowsiness and fatigue during the hours you don't want to be sleeping. Like when you catch a few ZZZzzz's while waiting at a red light ;)

You know I didn't catch that, but it cracks me up when they quote side effects as being internal bleeding and the like. In fact hubby have a habit of adding to that long list and seeing how drastic we can make it!
