    Boo! It's time for Christmas!

Today, while working on a patient, i was humming and singing to the music in the background (at least i wasn't dancing) and i noticed the lyrics of this specific christmas song by andy williams : "it's the most wonderful time of the year" i don't know why i haven't noticed this ever before, but listen to what he sings in this line:

    [podcast]/music/christmassong.mp3[/podcast]

what's the deal here? did you hear the same thing i did? there'll be scary ghost stories?
who tells scary ghost stories at christmas time? i don't...i tell the one about Jesus in the manger...the one about the angels and the shepherds, but i try to skip the scary ghost stories as we sit around the christmas tree.
sure...i occasionally tell them the story of santa claus (which is kind of scary...if you think about it...a fat bearded fellow landing on your roof and rummaging through your chimney is odd). but, i try to save the ghost stories for the kids that go to summer camp...

    quietly making noise,
    fletch

Perhaps "A Christmas Carol'? That's what I like to think it is anyway.

I've been pondering this (in all my spare time), and you know what? Dickens wrote a pretty scary ghost story. Very definitely Christmasy, too.

thank you cutzi and kendra for the scary christmas story lessons...yes...a christmas carol by charles dickens is in fact a scary story complete with ghosts, etc... unfortunately, i've only seen the mickey mouse version, which really wasn't scary at all...
however, listen again to andy williams sing that song...it is such a happy song - the type of music you would hear as you skate dance around the frozen pond with your love one on your arm...
remember...it's the most wonderful time of the year...you've got "kids jingle belling" and a chorus of people singing "ding dong" in the background...and you have "gay happy meetings" (more ding dongs in the background)...then "parties for hosting" and "marshmallows for toasting" and the famous "much mistletoe-ing"...
then...suddenly...we switch gears and we are telling each others "scary ghost stories." i wonder why he didn't include "drunk holiday parties" and "dysfunctional family conflicts" and "much cancer diagnosing" to help cheer this song up a bit more!

This same topic came up in our house last year.

In the book Pickwick Papers the family gathers around the fire at Christmas time and shares stories, including ghost ones. I think it is just something that we have lost in this day and age. My family tends to share knee slapping, eye wiping, side hurting, doubled over, can't breath stories around ours :-D

    Fletch,
I f you haven't seen the Mr. Magoo version of "A Christmas Carol" then you haven't seen anything. I continue to tell my children that no actor can hold a candle to Mr. Magoo's acting abilities. Why he never received a nomination? I don't know. I've watched this since I was a little tike and the spirits still scare me.
