I think at that point the message got across... the following year I again said "How about no gift exchange etc." and everyone agreed and so I showed up. This year my dad won't be there nor will my grandmother. Consequently Thanksgiving and Christmas this year will have a very painful vacuum in it as their presence will be missed.
