Kendra and I each have an extensive family that supported us during the past two weeks. Many times we stopped to acknowledge that we are blessed to have parents and siblings that live physically close enough to have played an integral part in Mighty Joe’s recovery and care.
For others, the support would end there, but for us that barely got the ball rolling…because our support list went on to include friends, acquaintances, and a number of people “we’ve never met” that prayed for us and for Mighty Joe.
That leads me to a big thank you to the elders, deacons, and congregation from our church: Central Valley Presbyterian. It has been mentioned before, but for such a small congregation, our church has been unusually stricken with a host of hospital visits and tragedy (as Heather said, “You are welcome to join us, just make sure you have insurance.”). Each time our church has been hit, I’ve watched in amazement as the members have risen up to “extend the arms of Christ” to the needy and infirmed.
Yesterday, based on a blog post from Kendra, the deacons of CVP came up with an idea to bless our family in a very special way. It is unreal to attend a church that cares so much for one another. This one brought tears to both of our eyes, so rather than discuss it, I thought I would just introduce it and let you listen:

Thank you to the saints of Central Valley Presbyterian…I’m not sure if being mentioned in theMangoTimes will be a positive thing or not…maybe it will get us a record deal! Thank you for loving our family!

The words alone are enough to make the tear ducts leak but hearing those that love you sing them, well, that makes the waterworks flood the room
My four-year old, Isaac, is listening with me and interrupted to say:
“I want to go to that church someday.”
~smile~
Blessings to your family. We are so grateful you have such a wonderful *church* family!

Oh, how I needed to hear that song today! Praise Him, the Glorious One who is the Father of us all.
My six year old has been full of questions lately. This morning as I was listening to your church sing, he came up and said he was ready to ask Jesus to forgive him now. Thank you for allowing me to have this in the background as my little boy came into the family of God.
A few hours later and still crying,

I’ve been following your blog & Mighty Joe’s progress. I’ve prayed for all of you. That song is so very appropriate. It also happens to be my favorite hymn.
The way your church sang it was as moving as the words & the the circumstances surrounding it. There’s nothing like God’s people putting all they have into Praise.
Calling on a Mighty God for Mighty Joe.
Peace,
