the official fourth of july photo goes out in the mail today, but for those of you not on the mailing list and others that wanted a sneak peak, i thought you would like to see the unofficial family photo (otherwise known as: my answer to the question: can we take a goofy picture?).

So I turn on the computer monitor, and guess which photo Paul had set as our computer wallpaper?
Very nice!
so…we made it to your screen? i appreciate his willingness to make your computer a shrine to those of us here in mangoland, but is paul the sort of guy that would make a road side memorial if i died tragically on an illinois highway? it would make a difference if i decided to come visit you?

Hmmm…this is a tough one. Based on our knowledge of your wishes, I would have to refrain from a roadside memorial (though it would be a difficult decision)…sooo…I maybe I could do one of the following to keep your memory alive instead:
1. Name a star after you and on the yearly anniversary of your demise, setup one of those 10 million watt lights to shine a beam of light to the galaxy far, far away…
2. Eat a Mango each morning for breakfast while quoting TPB…
3. Amputate my leg, wear a pirate costume, incorporate “arrrghs” into my vocabulary and watch Pirates of the Caribbean (would I have to enjoy it?)…
I can think of a few other things, but maybe I should stop before you begin considering a restraining order.
editor’s response: i’m not into the star idea… and i hate to bum out my readers, but i don’t actually like mangos (i’m more of a papaya guy…but thePapayaTimes didn’t sound too good). you are getting closer to the idea of my memorial when you answered with #3…but i’m not sure if i could force you to enjoy your amputation. (by the way…we are only four short months away until talk like a pirate day…get your stuff together…).
as far as memorials go…elizabeth r. has her memorial planned out…and let me tell you, this girl has it nailed. fantastic ideas if you ask me…although her points on remarriage are tricky. i know kenj has asked what i would do if she died…would i remarry or stay single? foolishly, i answered stay single (you see, my point was…where could i meet anyone as good as she has been in my life…). unfortunately, it was misinterpreted…she thought i meant, “get married…why would i go through this again?” so you see…two totally different responses to the same question with two totally different outcomes.
so now when she asks the hypothetical death/bachelor question, i tell her that the survivors are going to become gypsies and travel the world teaching people how to talk like pirates.
*Great* picture!

Perfect! Wow. How did you get everyone to pose so well? Any tips? Or is this genetic?
Aha! The real family photo.
If you travel to southern Indiana and die on the highway, we could definitely get you a roadside memorial. Of course, try to pick a place where there isn’t too many already…….they are everywhere and seem to stay there for years……and years.
